Stress analysis of bonded patch and scarf repairs in composite structures
E. Madenci, A. Barut and I. Guven, University of Arizona, USA
Abstract:
This chapter describes a ‘super’ element as an alternative to conventional solid elements when analyzing scarf joint and scarf repair configurations in composite panels. The super element, which consists of a higher-order plate element for the adherends and a linear solid element for the adhesive, eliminates through-thickness discretization while providing complete three-dimensional stress and strain fields without constraints on the nature of the lamination and type of loading. The higher-order nature of the plate theory makes it suitable for analyzing thick laminates and sandwich panels ...
