Interestingly, Anacron is not meant as a replacement for cron , but instead it's meant to be used in scenarios where the environment involves the system being off some of the time. Furthermore, Anacron does not expect the system to be on at all times. For instance, laptops are shut down from time to time. Another distinct feature of Anacron is the fact that the duration is defined in days or monthly and not hours or minutes. If you have a job to be executed at a certain time and the system is off, rest assured when the system is powered up Anacron will execute the job. We can take a look at the anacrontab file:
