scattering The diffusion of a wireless signal that results from hitting an object that has smaller dimensions compared with the signal’s wavelength. Scattering is also related to the roughness of the surface a wireless signal encounters. The rougher the surface, the more likely a signal is to scatter when it hits that surface.
