Chapter 8Navigating the 4 Cs of Digital Transformation

Welcome to the beginning of your transformative journey. You are about to set sail toward a land of great opportunity. Along the way you will develop co‐creation practices combining the power of diversity with computational methods for turning concepts into action. And though the voyage at times will be challenging, or even tedious, the outcome will make you a fundamentally improved leader.

Before we begin, please note that this chapter is more of a step‐by‐step manual for digital transformation rather than a pithy commentary on the value of collaborative change. If you prefer some lighter reading for now, feel free to skip ahead to the concluding chapter, where I sum up everything and connect it all to Spider‐Man.

Making (Systemic) Goals Concrete and Actionable

All aboard! It's time to explore the 4 Cs and co‐create next‐level change. This is where you, in collaboration with your core CLS teams, set up a workflow for achieving high‐level goals. Adopted loosely from a standard machine‐learning pipeline, my 4 Cs to post‐digital co‐creation are:

  1. Confirm high‐level priorities and the associated systemic frameworks.
  2. Collect relevant cross‐functional data and ideas to explore systemic challenges.
  3. Construct cross‐functional models for accomplishing high‐level priorities.
  4. Convey effective models in the form of policy and practice, monitor outcomes, and refine the process.

As discussed in the previous chapter, leaders wanting ...
