7.4.4 Linguistics
Linguistics is the formal and scientic study of human language. Linguists
have developed sophisticated models that describe the structure, or gram-
mar, of human languages. e study of grammar focuses on how language
elements are related to each other and the rules by which these relation-
ships are established.
A parse tree models the grammar of a language and expresses the gram-
mar in a way that claries the meaning of the elements in the language.
Lower levels of a parse tree contain smaller groups of words, having a sin-
