8.1Summary
The computational task presented in this book has been to produce general paraphrases for isolated part – sentence metaphor on the basis of the semantics of literal interpretations of the metaphorically used words. MAP, the program implementing this task, includes in its scope the interesting form of nominal metaphor, with its challenging necessity to determine what is likely salient to the vehicle concept, as well as metaphoric nominal compounds. In addition, the metaphor analysis provided by MAP supports the interpretation of modified metaphoric idioms. While MAP interprets conventional and unconventional metaphor in the same way, its focus is on novel, cross – modal, similarity – creating metaphor. ...
