Detecting Manufacturing Defects Using CV at the Edge

In the previous chapter, we introduced Amazon Lookout for Vision. We discussed how you can use Lookout for Vision to detect defects at scale using CV and walked through an example that trained a model to identify damaged pills.

In this chapter, we will dive deeper into Lookout for Vision by detecting manufacturing defects in images of parts while running models on edge devices. What are edge devices? With edge computing, you can run applications away from the cloud and locally on computer devices (edge devices). Some examples of edge devices are security cameras, smartphones, and sensors.
