2. Accessing and Configuring the Pi

In this chapter, we’ll look at the various ways you can access your Pi computer, locally, remotely through the terminal, or by using a remote desktop. Finally, we’ll look at adding new user accounts and setting up external hard drives and storage devices.

Using the GUI Desktop Locally

If you just turn on the Raspberry Pi after a default installation, you will be presented with the Raspbian desktop. It looks something like the MacOS or the Windows desktops, so you should find it somewhat intuitive to use. We will discuss using the desktop in detail in Chapter 3.
