Introduction: Confessions of a Compact Camera Shooter
I took a trip to Bosque Del Apache, New Mexico. With my new Canon G10 compact camera in hand, I took a few pictures. And then I saw the results. That's all it took to convince me to write this book.
My intent is to help photo enthusiasts who shoot with compact cameras to take better pictures.
Sure, I take 90 percent of my "serious" pictures with my professional SLR cameras. After all, I am a professional photographer. But I must confess: I truly enjoy shooting with my compact camera. Not only is it fun and easy, but the results are pretty darn good! In fact, I never leave home without one.
So this chapter is my confession—one that I am happy to share with you.
Confession
Guilty as charged. It's true. I need to make a confession: I took nearly all the pictures in this book with my Canon G10 compact camera.
I use the word confession sort of in jest because I am known for shooting with top-of-the-line digital SLR cameras. And with good reason; they produce knockout images in all lighting conditions—indoors and out—plus they accept more than fifty lenses and dozens of accessories that expand the camera's capabilities.
So, like some pros I know, I'd have to plead, tongue in cheek, "the Fifth" when asked about shooting with a less-than-the-best ...
