5 The “Developed” World

We first flew to London and packed up our apartment, then moved to the Netherlands. I hadn’t lived in England for years, many of my friends had left, and I felt oddly like a tourist in my city of birth.

Holland has an immigration bureaucracy that’s complex even for EU residents—moving to Mozambique is a doddle in comparison.
