Logical Data Storage

XPS manages and accesses its physical storage by using several logical units of storage, including pages, extents, and dbspaces. Database objects created by users, such as tables and indexes, build on these logical storage units.

Pages

The unit of XPS access to physical disk is the page. The page size is configured with a parameter in the onconfig configuration file (the onconfig file is described in “Changing Informix XPS Tunable Parameters” on page 381). The page size parameter, PAGESIZE, can be set to 2, 4, or 8 Kbytes, with a default of 4 Kbytes. Once the page size has been set, it cannot be changed unless the database is unloaded and reloaded.
