Parallel Processing
DB2 UDB introduced support for parallel processing in stages. In this section we examine the building blocks on which the current versions of DB2 UDB are built.
DB2 Universal Database Enterprise Edition (EE)
DB2 UDB Enterprise Edition (EE) shipped in September 1997. For the first time, DB2 for Solaris users were able to use intraquery parallelism, an essential component in deploying data warehouse applications. Intraquery parallelism is achieved within a single database partition by means of multiple CPUs to execute the query plans selected by the optimizer.
Figure 12.2 shows resource usage without intraquery parallelism.
