Resiliency: How to Bounce Back (Sometimes Stronger)

Earlier in my career, I became the new executive director of a financially struggling nonprofit. A mentor offered perspective that has turned out to be true, although not comforting. He observed that the nonprofits that start out easy, with all the money they need, later tend to have problems. They never learned the critical lessons offered only through struggle and hardship. It’s the nonprofits that had to struggle to grow and establish themselves that often seemed healthier in the end.
