Use-of-Force Policies and Risk Mitigation

Unfortunately, many organizations focus exclusively (or obsessively) on policies that attempt to mitigate civil liabilities associated with security personnel taking action while ignoring (or minimizing) other just as potentially damaging liabilities, such as protecting their reputation or their ability to compete in their unique market. Therefore, policies that guide personnel’s physical interactions with uncooperative subjects, whether they restrain or allow certain behaviors, need to be geared toward creating outcomes that have the greatest total benefit for the organization.
