STEP BY STEP CONSTRUCTING A CURVED CAST-IN-PLACE CONCRETE RETAINING WALL
This curved retaining wall was built around an existing tree (see page 96 for a view of the tree taken from a higher angle). The sequence of images shows how, once the foundation slab was cast and the vertical steel reinforcement bars were erected, the area was excavated and the soil protected by blue sheeting. Next, formwork was erected, which was supported by posts, gradually working along each section of the curved wall. The wall was then backfilled and cast-in-place concrete steps were added to the outer side. Once the wall was complete, it was grit-blasted to reveal the texture of the aggregate (not illustrated).
