STEP BY STEP CONSTRUCTING AN ENGINEERING-BRICK RETAINING WALL

The structural engineer determined the design of this heavily engineered retaining wall, which consists of two brick skins filled with cast-in-place concrete. Although the wall is only 6 ft 6 in high, a strong structure was necessary because of the potential lateral live load of the flowing groundwater underneath. The choice of blue engineering brick reflects local canal and railroad tradition and echoes the use of color in the villa. Engineering bricks also resist frost in wet conditions.
