Zinc

Zinc is resistant to corrosion and is used for roofing, flashings, channels, and copings and sills—but, most especially, it is used as a coating in galvanizing and sherardizing. A film of dull-gray carbonate forms on the surface of zinc in reaction to the weather and protects it from further erosion; it is a good, but gray, substitute for copper sheeting, and is used in capping (with lumber) and in moisture-proof courses.
