Glass can be used to form walls and screens, and can be used as a decorative element: a classic case is bottlebottom paving, which is just the bottoms of bottles set in mortar or concrete. Noise barriers may be made of glass, though this practice is far commoner in France and The Netherlands than in some other countries. There are four forms of glass we should be especially concerned with:

  • toughened glass;
  • wired glass;
  • laminated glass; and
  • glass bricks.
