some priorities are allocated, to enable project compliance and minimise subse-
quent negotiation time between developers, ergonomists and clients. Pragmatism,
compromise and social skills of negotiation are required; would we really argue
that a particular shade of red preferred on a certain display is at the same level of
criticality as ensuring that staff levels can allow emergencies to be managed? On the
other hand great care is needed, and for any requirement not deemed as of highest
priority the consequences of not meeting it should be traced through and assessed.
