FATIGUE IN THE MARITIME AND ROAD
HAULAGE INDUSTRIES

This paper reports a comparison of fatigue in seafarers and lorry
drivers. The seafarers data came from the Cardiff Seafarers’ Fatigue
Research Programme and this was compared with a small survey
of lorry drivers. Results showed that reported fatigue was similar
in the offshore and onshore samples. The reported fatigue scores
from lorry drivers were similar to the crew of ferries. These groups
also reported reduced health compared to other sectors. The present
results probably reflect the effects of frequent port-turnarounds ...
