The Project
The RIBA organised a competition on behalf of Orwell Housing Association (who provided the funding), Elmswell Parish Council and the Suffolk Preservation Society (a branch of the Council for the of Protection of Rural England - CPRE). Riches Hawley Mikhail won the competition, having designed 26 eco-homes without ‘greenwash’, as stipulated in the brief. The local planning department was represented on the competition jury, and this smoothed the process of getting planning permission.
