The traditional television set with a CRT and a modest loudspeaker will continue for some time because it can be made at very low cost and is adequate for watching certain types of program. However, convergent technology allows the production and delivery of high-quality image and surround-sound data, leading to a requirement for presentation equipment which can do justice to it. The requirements of an electronic cinema will be for a large bright picture with adequate audio power, whereas in the home cinema there are additional constraints such as cost and physical size.
