48 Conversion of Large Scale Wastes into Value-added Products
Secondary aluminium dross, generated from white dross processing in a rotary
DC electric arc furnace, has been subjected to alkaline leaching and carbonation
(Lucheva etal., 2005). This results in aluminium hydroxide and NMP containing
80% alumina. The hydroxide is used to adjust the Al:Cl ratio in aluminium oxychlo-
ride coagulant and the NMP has applications in refractory materials.
Activated alumina has applications as an adsorbent and catalyst. In this context,
