Since Harwood Child’s (1937) thesis on public opinion and peace, there has not been much scholarly analysis of peace propaganda as a problematique. Child’s justification for peace propaganda is still as justifiable as it was when he argued some 80 years ago that “the presentation of peace depends upon the maintenance of a state of public opinion favourable to peace”. Child’s pre–World War II thesis was based on his belief that peace propaganda can help prepare public opinion psychologically for peace.
