Facebook was founded in February 2004 in Cambridge, Massachusetts, USA, by Mark Zuckerberg, Andrew McCollum, Dustin Moskovitz, Eduardo Saverin, and Chris Hughes. Headquartered in Menlo Park, California, it was the sixth-largest company in market capitalization in December 2017, valued at US$ 512 billion (Companies Market Cap., 2018). In 2021, the company created the brand Metaverse, or Meta Platforms Inc., indicating an immersion in virtual reality, developing games, avatars, among other forms of interaction typical of science fiction.
