10Decide to Embody the Strongest, Boldest, Most Courageous Version of Yourself
As women, we pour so much of ourselves into everything we do – and rightfully so. We tend to be nurturers by nature, and our desire to cultivate something, leaving it better than when we found it, appears to be innate for a large majority. We often bring this perspective and approach to our careers, but frequently without a strategy. We make the mistake thinking that what we pour into our careers we will get back out, but I'm sure you've learned at this point in your career that this just isn't true. Once you come to this realization and become aware of the price of the sacrifice, you'll be ready to do something about it. The unfortunate reality is that in this capitalistic society, what you give will continuously get taken and leveraged for an agenda that rarely, if ever, involves you and your best interest.
Living our lives as a sacrifice, as we women are taught to do by society and culture, disconnects us from our own feelings, needs, and desires. That disconnect is powerful and can be evidenced in our careers. We settle. Far too often, we accept a no that should be a yes. We hustle even harder, to no avail. We exhaust ourselves. We carry the weight of bias, gender inequality, sexism, racism, and harassment.
