ASTD defines it as a planned learning process that may include mentoring, training, college courses, and job rotations to prepare employees with the skills required to manage the day-to-day work of an organization. This process enables employees to execute the strategies of the organization. Usually, there are defined competencies for managers such as the following: knowledge and application of management theory and processes; finance and accounting; and interpersonal, problem-solving, leadership, and communication skills.
