8.7. Setting Up Our Example Environment

In the next section, we'll be taking a look at the WSUS Console and each of the components within it. In order to let us see the same things when doing this, let's make sure that we've configured our example environment to prepare for console administration.

To do this, first make sure you've installed WSUS and its necessary prerequisites onto a computer in your test environment. In my example, I've named my test computer \\wsus. When installing that WSUS server, make sure you've selected the options discussed earlier in this chapter.

Once the server is installed, bring up the WSUS console by first creating an empty Microsoft Management Console. Do this by typing mmc into the command prompt window. From ...
