8.4. WSUS Architectures
Though not immediately obvious during the installation of the software, there are seven possible configurations for WSUS. Each of these configurations may be used depending on the size of the network, as well as the managing IT group's requirements. The level of trust between IT groups is also an important determinant in selecting an architecture. When the IT team at the primary site does not trust those at secondary sites to perform certain patch management tasks, you'll see that it is possible to limit what kinds of activities can be done by those downlevel teams.
