Painting From Memory

Whenever I’m struggling with my art or feeling adrift, I try to look for simple shapes and relationships that I can use in a composition. Usually these efforts are more impressionistic and slightly abstract, but they can lead to some very serious work down the road. For these exercises, I work from memory and resist the use of photographs. I rely on my own stored experiences, which I believe we all can get to if we just begin to access our personal mental databases.
