Rescue a Failed Painting With a Palette Knife

Most artists have a collection of failed paintings—paintings that, for one reason or another, didn’t quite work out or didn’t fulfill the vision the artist had before beginning. If you work in oil or acrylic, and generally paint with a brush, you can rescue a failed brush painting by reworking it with a palette knife. You can change the elements, effects and style to come closer to the concept that you originally had in mind.
