Paint Quick Sketches for Fresh Ideas

When I find myself struggling to settle down in the studio to get started, or when I don’t have a specific idea in mind to paint, I often walk around the outside of my studio and simply look around.

Sometimes my eye is caught by potted flowers or the landscape around my house or the lemons on my Meyer lemon trees. Something about the freshness of the color of the lemons and the dark green around them always excites me. I look for a leaf formation and lemons that I think will make an interesting study and then I begin. My goal is simply to have fun and enjoy the process.
