The demands of everyday life can interfere with creativity. Deadlines and obligations can create fatigue, so it is important that I keep my creative battery charged.

I recharge my battery by taking time to do things I truly enjoy. This means I take time to play. Play is different from one person to another. Some people need to get away from it all, but for me, grabbing a sketchbook and pen and heading out the door is usually enough. When I sketch for myself, I am not worried about what others might think or if the sketch will work for a finished painting. When I draw with pen and ink, I do not predraw with a pencil.
