Create a New Pastel Painting Over an Old One

When experiencing a creative block, it can be helpful to bring out all the unfinished and unsuccessful pastels from storage for closer scrutiny. There is no need to sit and become down while you analyze them for their shortcomings. Choose one that you are comfortable with completely reworking in a fresh, adventuresome way.

One advantage of working on a heavyweight paper primed with pastel ground or sanded paper is that when a pastel painting is unsuccessful, you can remove the image with rubbing alcohol, creating a fresh surface tinted with traces of pentimento.
