Glossary of Relevant Terms

51% Attack—When a single miner or group of miners control 51 percent or more of a blockchain’s hash rate and use that power to exert malicious harm to the blockchain and/or its assets.

Airdrop—A free drop of a cryptocurrency to designated individuals or accounts on a blockchain. Airdrops are often used by startup companies to introduce their coin or token.

ARPANET—Acronym for Advanced Research Projects Agency Network, the government’s wide area network and predecessor to the modern Internet.

Asymmetric Encryption—A method of securing data using a public and private key combination where possessing a private key is necessary to gain access to secure information.
