Introduction

This book is the culmination of 20 years of working with the Shingo Institute. During that time, I (Michael Martyn) have had the pleasure of wearing just about every hat Shingo had to offer. I started out as a Shingo examiner, became a team lead, served as the executive director of the Northwest Shingo Prize (Washington, Oregon, and California), trained examiners, conducted the first Shingo assessments in healthcare and the Department of Defense, wrote curriculum for Shingo workshops, served on the Executive Board and the Board of Examiners, became an adjunct professor for the Shingo MBA program, and most currently, serve as a Licensed Affiliate and a Senior Curriculum Advisor.
