Case 1
A 32-year-old African-American male was seen in the emergency room (ER) of a large public city hospital. The patient was arrested by the police following an incident in which he ran shouting and yelling in a “wild” fashion through a crowded downtown shopping district. The patient was disheveled, pushing and randomly assaulting people as he proceeded. In the ER, the patient was restrained and his workup evaluation was begun.
