Our time at Tensaw anchorage came to a close. Over the course of the two days, another couple of boats joined us, but they moored around the corner and we heard nothing from them via radio or otherwise.

When the time came to go, both the Rossmans and we were eager but nervous, each for our own reasons. Jim was nervous for his new alternator belt. In retrospect, it turns out that his concerns were well placed. His alternator problems from a bad serpentine belt were exacerbated with a bit of rust that had built up on one of the pulleys. Over time, each new belt would start to slip and ultimately fail.

Maggie and I were nervous for a different reason. We were new to saltwater and didn’t know how to operate ...
