Chapter 28Swamp Minions Both Miserable and Lethal
Our time with Kayla was nice. The challenges of the trip fed Kayla’s sense of adventure, and the conversation fed both mama and dad in ways only direct connection with our children could. Once she returned to school to continue her graduate work, our collective memories would shrink the physical distance between us. We were grateful. The end of our time together was chaotic, as a seventy-foot yacht was coming into our transient space at Wright’s Marina ahead of schedule. We unceremoniously booted tearful Kayla and her gear from our blue tug as Maggie put on a brave face and made the promises moms do, and I took care of the details of getting underway.
