About SAS Catalogs
SAS catalogs are special files that contain content that is useful in SAS applications. Outside of SAS, a SAS catalog is a single file (usually with a file extension of SAS7BCAT). In SAS, a SAS catalog is like a virtual folder that contains items called entries. There are many different types of SAS catalog entries that are used for different purposes. Some examples of entry types include:
A SAS format definition.
An image created using one of the SAS/GRAPH procedures.
A SAS program. It is often used in a SAS/AF application.
A compiled macro program that has already been processed by SAS.
