ABLE PARRIS
No subject is off limits for North Carolina’s Able Parris, although it may not be obvious to the viewer: ‘Last year I was looking through the collages I had made and found a theme. Everything was about anxiety and the uncertainty of the future. I made a collage about being lactose intolerant, and I’ve made some collages illustrating the poetry of creation, grace, motivation and even love, but much of my work is subtle in its messages.’ He prefers to use older material due to the cruder quality: ‘Most of the material I use dates back to the 1980s or earlier, mostly because the printing wasn’t as glossy and trueto-life.’ He loves ...
