Introduction

If you’re reading this book, you’re likely aware of the proliferation of diversity and inclusion initiatives in recent years. Organizations are investing real money and energy into making their workplaces equitable and accessible to employees of all backgrounds and abilities. The business case for inclusion, diversity, and equity (ID&E) has been made at the highest levels of most companies. However, the lived experience of a diverse workforce often seems far from the glossy pages of training books and company reports. And the gap between what has been promised and what is being delivered is undermining much of the progress that has been made.
