CHALLENGE 14
Copying and influence
INFLUENCE AND COPYING ARE DELICATE SUBJECTS, THE SOURCE OF DEBATES AND CREATIVE BLOCKS, ESPECIALLY WHEN THE ARTIST IS SELF-TAUGHT. IF COPYING IS A NECESSARY PART OF LEARNING, WHERE IS THE BOUNDARY BETWEEN THAT AND PLAGIARISM? IS THERE A HEALTHY WAY TO BE INFLUENCED BY THE WORK OF OTHER ARTISTS? THIS CHALLENGE SUGGESTS A METHOD THAT IS ORGANIZED INTO FOUR STAGES TO ENSURE A SMOOTH TRANSITION BETWEEN COPYING AND ESTABLISHING YOUR OWN PERSONAL PRACTICE.
