packsize is determined by the composite attribute {supplierNo, partNo}. The value of
supplierNo on its own is insufficient to determine the packsize (e.g. S2 supplies in
packsizes of 10 and 40). Likewise the value of partNo alone is insufficient to determine
packsize (e.g. P1 is supplied in packsizes of 10 and 20). However, the value of the
composite attribute {supplierNo, partNo} does determine packsize (e.g. S2 supplies
P1 in just one packsize, namely 10). The existence of this composite determinant is
shown on the determinancy diagram by enclosing its constituent attributes within the
larger box.
