Migrating to vCSA

To simplify the migration process to vSphere 6.5, VMware has introduced a Migration Tool that allows easily upgrading an existing vCSA and PSC appliance 6.0 or a Windows-based vCenter Server to the newest version. The tool supports migration from a vCenter Server running version 5.5 Update 3 or 6.0, but migration from Windows vCenter Server 6.5 to vCSA 6.5 is not supported.

The upgrade procedure is a two-stage process, as follows:

  1. vCSA deployment
  2. Copying the configuration from the source vCenter Server

If you make use of the DRS feature in the clustered environment where the source vCenter Server resides, the automated upgrade process requires the DRS function not set to Fully Automated.
