There have always been incentives for collecting and sharing data, but only recently has it been easy to move data around and analyse the results. The benefits from sharing data are enormous and can inform a healthier, safer world: by quickly processing accident data, we can help to prevent the accident recurring; by sharing information on the treatment of Ebola or COVID-19 patients, we can assist drug companies with building a vaccine or a drug to treat the disease, and we can help to develop processes to prevent the spread of the disease.
