The data accountability map reflects on the store activity, which can include anything from locating data in a place of physical or logical retrieval, to data stored on devices within organisations as well as external to organisations. This also includes virtual stores such as data feeds. Whether an organisation is putting data to work, such as a hotel using data on their guests’ clothing behaviours to improve their hotel laundry processes, or a business intelligence company doing a data inventory, it is important to ensure that governance policies are in place and accountabilities can be met.
