Exploring and Summarizing Data
When data preparation is complete, an exploratory data
analysis should be undertaken. Familiarity with the data is essential
for efficient and informed analysis. A good strategy is to begin with
univariate analysis and proceed to bivariate and multivariate exploration.
Visualization is the primary tool with support from univariate and
bivariate descriptive statistics. For data sets with a large number
of variables, automating the exploratory analysis (for example using
the JMP Scripting Language) may be necessary.
