One thing you may have noticed in working with our physical data model is that some of the object names are rather long and unwieldy. For example, typing Retail_Customer_First_Name into a SQL query can be cumbersome. For this reason, and to help manage object names on the DBMS platform, many data modelers choose to abbreviate the object names on the physical model. This is where the naming standards that we learned about in Chapter 12 come into play. Since we covered naming standards in detail in Chapter 12, we won’t give a step-by-step walkthrough here.
