CHAPTER  12

Searching Your Database

There is little point in storing your data in a database if you cannot access it efficiently. For example, customers don’t appreciate being kept on hold for a long time while you search the database for their details. In general, it is straightforward to find data quickly if you understand a few basic techniques.

To put this chapter into context, Chapter 13 covers data analysis, which is involved with the examination of data, whereas this chapter concerns finding data, the step prior to analysis. There is some overlap between this chapter and Chapter 19, which covers online searching. In addition, it is important that your staff can search the database efficiently; staff training is covered in Chapter 20
